Emily
Thirty-two days.
That was the streak before it ended last night at Wyandotte County Lake. Which is why I went there. I knew the probability the streak would end was not low. Eschewing downtown for the lake was entirely about taking the pressure off, letting the streak end if that is what Fate decides.
I needed the streak to end, honestly. And letting it die naturally was better than me forcing it by taking the night off or going out of my way to avoid women I otherwise would've engaged.
It's not all bad, though. The woman who would've kept the streak alive had she let me photograph her in the last minutes of light is Siu. Who I first met with her friend nearly 4 years ago at the lake. She eventually fell off as an Instagram follower, but now she's back. And hopefully soon she'll be back in front of my camera.
Tonight... back downtown... let's say it felt like nothing changed. Like the universe was once again mocking me and my desire to still press forward despite what feels like futility.
20th and Main, Southwest corner. A choice between one woman to my East in an elegant dress or a woman walking my way from the North in boots and a black top.
Pick wrong and I lose both.
