Sunsets can be hit or miss. I've said that I don't typically go for them, and that's merely due to how things need to be timed. Photography is almost entirely about light. Without the right light, you won't get a great photo regardless of your subject.
And sunsets are entirely about the light it paints in the sky.
Clear skies can still produce good sunsets, but to get a great sunset shot, you need clouds. It can also provide some great light for photographing a subject - but you do need to move quickly.
