Olivia
I first saw her at one of the merchants in one of the pavilions when looking for shade. So I decided to stay put a moment. I needed the shade anyway, combined with a little bit of wind. Plus if I was going to photograph her, I knew I wanted her out in the sun. So... patience was a virtue.
The PRIDE fan was her idea. She immediately dug for it when I asked to photograph her. And obviously since you're seeing these shots, I have zero issue with the message. I've been pushing a message along those lines since college, joining advocacy for legalizing gay marriage while back in college, before this young woman was born, and well before that point of view was even widespread.
And I continued that support with my wife and I penning our names, address, and signatures to a marriage license so a lesbian couple - and my wife's best friend - could get married in Nebraska after Obergefelle was decided at the Supreme Court.
And though I have criticisms of the directions the LGBT+ movement has gone in recent years, I'm still unwavering in that support. Sadly, though, a lot of people have taken the perspective that being critical to any degree of the movement, where it's gone and where it continues to try to go, means you're one of a few... unsavory things that heavily imply you never supported the LGBT+ community to begin with.
