One thing I think we keep telling ourselves is that losing motivation to do something means we should stop doing it altogether. If I did that, though, I would’ve dropped this hobby a long time ago. Despite my desire to do so, I’m not doing this for money, so I’m not motivated by money. Instead I’m motivated by the random assortment of people I’ve encountered and photographed, and the desire to keep doing that.

She used to work for Olan Mills. (Remember them?…. No?…) Wanted to be a full-time professional photographer. Couldn’t really make it work after Olan Mills folded, so she lost the motivation. Hopefully I was able to talk her into pursuing it again.

When money is your motivation, it’s easy to become dissuaded. While the adage of “do something you love and the money will follow” often doesn’t hold true, that shouldn’t dissuade you from doing something you love.
