Daniel and the Fish

Daniel and the Fish

My particular... brand of photography relies heavily on timing: right time, right place, right subject, right circumstance. Those converge and generally I'm going to get a photo I like.

And with Daniel, I don't think that could've been more perfect.

When I first encountered him, he was just lounging against a tree. A couple fishing poles at the lake shore. I fully intended to just walk by. Until, I swear, he sprang up to his feet from laying down and ran to the pole. It soon became apparent what was on the other end of the line.

After nearly losing his footing entirely on the edge of the shore, he stepped down into the water. I set my camera down and told him to hand me the pole so I could try to reel it closer to the shore for him to grab it.

Took a few tries as it was putting up a bit of a fight, but he finally got hold of it.

He said a few times that if not for me, he likely wouldn't have been able to wrangle it. And given the size of it and how much of a fight it put up, I believe him. And thankfully he released it back after taking care of the hook.
