Wildlife was my first pursuit with photography. In large part because you can freely photograph wildlife and they won’t complain and you don’t need to ask permission. I don’t photograph landscapes or anything like that all that much, but I do photograph sunsets on occasion.
Street portraiture, though, has become my primary pursuit with photography, with it being what I pursue almost exclusively starting in 2022. And between wildlife and people, easily I prefer photographing people.
Amanda asked me why back when I was talking to her to set up a photo shoot. And my response was simple:
Diversity. With wildlife photography, unless you're willing to travel or get very creative, you're generally limited in what you're going to find.
And looking through all my various street portraits, also showcased very well in my magazine, you'll see a pretty good diversity of people. Young and older along with being ethnically diverse, with a pretty good diversity of circumstance in which I find people.
So enough about that, who exactly am I as a person?
Well, I'm a husband first, along with being about equal parts software engineer and photographer. Okay not exactly equal parts since I've been a software developer (i.e., "coder") since high school, whereas I've only been actively pursuing photography since about 2018.
I grew up on the eastern seaboard, though I was born on the west coast, and moved to the Great Plains halfway through high school. Met my wife during college. We relocated to Kansas City in 2009, married in 2011, and have lived in a couple different parts of the metro.
We have two cats, Alice and Mackenzie. Alice - Bombay - was born around Memorial Day 2015. Mackenzie - Marble tabby - was born start of August 2021. Both are rescues.
